New Curriculum Framework, 2016
In the summer of 2016, the state of California adopted new framework for History/社会 科学 http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/hs/cf/sbedrafthssfw.asp. The new framework will drive changes in History/社会 科学 instruction, as well as drive new adoptions of instructional materials. The new framework identifies instructional shifts including civics, inquiry and literacy that align with the Common Core State Standards，以及 Standards for English Language Development. In addition to changes in pedagogy, the framework identifies content shifts, as well as offers teachers specific lesson ideas and ways to implement new legislation dealing with the representation of all demographic groups.
American History Civics Inquiry Project
All United States history students in the 长滩 Unified School District are required to write a United States History Civics Inquiry Project as a course requirement. 学生 will research a United States History topic and write a research paper based upon their findings. Then students will use their research to engage in community action. Throughout the project, students will submit a variety of research components. 学生 will be awarded a grade for accuracy and content for History. All requirements and district supports are found in a document created by the History Office. 见下文.
What is Constitution Day?
The final draft of the United States Constitution was signed in Philadelphia, 宾西法尼亚, 9月17日, 1787. In the years following many citizens of the United States have celebrated the creation of the Constitution at various times during the month of September. In 1955, the Daughters of the American Revolution began petitioning Congress to proclaim the week following September 17 as Constitution Week in observance of our highly respected document. On August 2, 1956 President Eisenhower signed this into law.
Fifty years later, in 2005, President George W. Bush signed public law 108-77 requiring all educational institutions that receive federal funds to teach the United States Constitution 9月17日. The law also states that educators be provided with teaching materials to fulfill this mandate.
